Clinical Nutrition

The Clinical Nutrition special collection aims to advance our understanding of the role of nutrition in clinical practice. We invite submissions that investigate the efficacy of nutritional interventions in improving clinical outcomes, optimising patient care, and enhancing quality of life for individuals with acute or chronic medical conditions.

Study Objective
To evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional prehabilitation interventions in hematological patients undergoing bone marrow transplant (BMT) to mitigate malnutrition and improve clinical outcomes.

Short Abstract
This systematic review examines various nutritional prehabilitation strategies used in BMT patients, including counseling, protein supplementation, and oral nutritional supplements (ONS). The findings show that pre-transplant nutritional support significantly improves energy intake, reduces complications such as pneumonia and graft-versus-host disease, and shortens hospital stays. Despite the evidence, the variability in methodologies and the lack of standardized protocols highlight the need for further studies.
