Study Objective
To examine the impact of maternal nutrition and lifestyle factors, including vitamin D levels and smoking during pregnancy, on early childhood oral health outcomes.
Short Abstract
This systematic review and meta-analysis explored the relationship between maternal health behaviors and childhood oral health. The findings show that maternal vitamin D levels during pregnancy are associated with reduced risks of enamel defects and childhood caries, while maternal smoking significantly increases the risk of dental caries in children. The study emphasizes the need for public health interventions targeting maternal health behaviors to improve children's dental health.
