Study Objective
To explore medical students' perceptions and experiences regarding medical nutrition education, focusing on the context in which nutrition teaching is provided and their views on their role in providing nutrition care.
Short Abstract
This study explores the 'hidden curriculum' in nutrition education for medical students in Australia. Interviews with 14 postgraduate students revealed that while they perceived nutrition as central to medical management, their experiences of nutrition education varied significantly. The findings suggest a need for a more contextual understanding of nutrition teaching beyond just counting hours and mapping content.

Semi-structured qualitative interviews with thematic analysis.

14 postgraduate medical students in Australia.

Inclusion Criteria
Postgraduate medical students at different stages of their degree.
Exclusion Criteria
None specified.
Intervention/Exposure
Interviews focusing on students’ perceptions of nutrition in medical management, the importance placed on nutrition during their education, and their views on working with other healthcare professionals, like dietitians.
