Nutrition, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Nutrition, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence special collection aims to explore the intersection of nutrition science, data analytics, and AI. We invite submissions that leverage advanced computational techniques to analyse large-scale dietary data, predict nutritional outcomes, and develop innovative solutions for personalised dietary recommendations and dietary pattern analysis.

Study Objective
To evaluate the characteristics, functions, and effectiveness of AI chatbots designed to promote physical activity, healthy eating, weight management behaviors, and other related health outcomes.

Short Abstract
This review assessed AI chatbot interventions across multiple studies to understand their effectiveness in encouraging physical activity, healthy eating, and weight management. A total of 9 studies were included, with a focus on chatbot characteristics such as gender, name, relational capacity, and persuasive capacity. Results suggest chatbots can increase physical activity but provide limited evidence on their effectiveness for diet and weight management.

Study Design
Systematic review of randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies

Population
Adults and children engaging with AI chatbots for physical activity, diet, and/or weight management

Sample Size
891 participants across 9 studies

Inclusion Criteria
Peer-reviewed articles on AI chatbot interventions in promoting physical activity, healthy eating, or weight loss

Exclusion Criteria
Non-peer-reviewed articles, articles not focused on chatbot-based interventions for health behaviors

Intervention/Exposure
AI chatbots used to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and weight management via text, voice, or other media

Outcome Measures
Changes in physical activity, sedentary behavior, diet, body weight, and user engagement with the chatbot
