Study Objective
To evaluate the Mediterranean Diet (MD) for its role in preventing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and reducing mortality, both in the general population and in individuals with prior cardiovascular conditions, considering gender-specific effects.

Short Abstract
This updated systematic review analyzes 24 studies on the Mediterranean Diet’s impact on cardiovascular diseases and mortality. The findings consistently support the benefits of a higher adherence to the MD in reducing the risk of CVD and improving overall health outcomes.
