Study Objective
To assess whether prebiotic and/or probiotic interventions are effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression in adults.
Short Abstract
This review examines seven studies assessing the impact of prebiotic and probiotic interventions on anxiety and depression symptoms. The findings suggest potential benefits of these interventions, with improvements in mood and symptom reduction. However, the results are limited by small sample sizes, short durations, and heterogeneity across studies. Further research is recommended to confirm long-term efficacy and isolate mechanisms.
